STUDIO BIO

W.E.T. Studios, formerly Wet Paint Studios, is located in an 8000 square foot studio at 750 Second street in San Francisco. Founded by George Mead, the company has been operating since 1980. Mead received his Master of Fine Arts degree in 1978, while under a scholarship in painting from the California College of Arts and Crafts. Between 1974 and 1978, Mead won two California Arts Council Grants, a San Francisco Arts Commission Grant and a National Endowment For the Arts Grant. These awards were for mural projects, three of which involved community oriented arts programs for federally subsidized, low-income housing projects. Mead has lectured on public art at the University of California campuses of Berkeley and Davis, and has headed a seminar on public art for the California Arts Council. In 1979, Mead worked for Bill Graham's FM Productions designing and painting backdrops for rock and roll tours. During this time, he also worked in Los Angeles as a journeyman scenic artist, painting TV and movie sets for Universal, Warner Brothers and Paramount Studios. For two years, 1987 through 1989, he taught at the Academy of Art in San Francisco. In recent years at W.E.T. Studios, he has been involved with designing and painting fine art murals for numerous clients. Mead's approach both to his fine and commercial art endeavors has always embraced an integration of art with social and environmental consciousness.
